The Colony

I've been trying to limit my doses of TeeVee over the past year or so, but this looks intriguing as hell:

This presupposes that no advance preparation is or was possible. This hardly seems "real world." In fact, those who have not considered such preparation would be unlikely to survive TEOTWAWKI. Positing their survival is analogous to expecting the oblivious air traveler, the person who has no idea where are the plane's emergency exits, to survive a fire prior to take-off.

@David: I'm sure you are probably correct about it being a poor test of a real cataclysmic event. Probably it will have a lot of hyped drama as well. That said, I plan to at least check out the first episode or two and see if it has legs.

How about them starting with sensory/sleep deprivation to initially disorient the participants? Until one has experienced this condition (it is a method of torture for good reason) it is hard to imagine how compromised is the ability to organize one's thoughts. Hallucinations or catatonia are common effects of prolonged treatment.

Those are going to be some wired, strung-out people...and I'd expect some unexpected, unpleasant events akin to the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Ooooh. David, I think they need to sign you up as a technical advisor if they do a Season 2...
